FC-07 Virtue and Human Flourishing in the Great Books
Gayne Anacker & Francis Fast
Virtue, character, and human flourishing—these concerns have been at the heart of the Great Books since the dawn of Western civilization. This seminar will study and discuss key readings that are part of the Great Conversation about how we should live and what it means to live well. Authors/texts will include: The Bible, Plato, Aristotle, Cicero, Thomas Aquinas, Jane Austen, C.S. Lewis, and J.R.R. Tolkien. (Most readings will be excerpts suitable for the time frame of the seminar. The readings will be distributed to Great Books Seminar enrollees prior to Oxbridge.)
