SELF, SOUL & THE IMAGO DEI:
PHILOSOPHICAL PERSPECTIVES ON THE SEARCH FOR MEANING

July 29, 30 and 31 – Oxford; August 4, 5, and 6 – Cambridge (Sessions: 2:30-5:00 p.m.)

The Oxbridge 2008 Philosophy Symposium will explore a set of crucial issues that are at the heart not only of the philosophical quest, but also the human quest.  The nature of the self as disputed in the classic mind-body problem is one of the most central and most challenging questions in the historic philosophical enterprise.  But the issues are not just metaphysical, they also embrace perennial issues of existential concern such as the nature of freedom, the ground of ethics, and the ultimate meaning and purpose of our lives.

Among the noted philosophers who will address these questions in the Symposium are:

  • Richard Mouw
  • John Cooper
  • Richard Swinburne
  • Nancey Murphy
  • James Taylor
  • Douglas Hedley
  • Craig Boyd
  • Kevin Klinghorn
  • Scott Shalkowski
