In Time for Thanksgiving, Here’s a Recipe from The Kilns

Beginning your preparations for Thanksgiving?  Are you planning to make mouthwatering delights for you and your family?  Looking for recipes?

You are in luck! Just in time for the holidays, we’ve gone into the recipe collection from our cook at The Kilns, Debbie Haney, and are pleased to post her recipe for an Apple Crisp.

Apple Crisp

3-4 large cooking apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced

2/3 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

2 tablespoons flour

1 (6 oz.) carton apple juice

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Grease an 8-inch square pan.  Mix apples and rest of ingredients in a bowl.  Pour into the pan.

While preparing topping, bake in 350º oven for 20 minutes until apples begin to soften.  Stir filling once during baking.

Topping:

1 cup quick cooking oatmeal

½ cup whole wheat flour (can use white flour)

½ cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

½ cup (4 oz.) butter, melted

Mix oatmeal, flour, brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.  Add melted butter and stir to combine.  Sprinkle topping over apples and continue baking 15-20 minutes until topping is brown and apples are tender.

Enjoy! And look for more recipes in the future. This recipe was courtesy of Debbie Haney, cook for our Summer Seminars in Residence at The Kilns.  Also included in The Kilns Cookbook, Second volume; coming soon!

I’m going to go bake it right now! Then I’ll eat the apple crisp (with ice cream of course) while I go over my notes from the WONDERFUL-AS-ALWAYS Southwest Region CSLewis Retreat, Camp Allen. Bless you blessing others. Yay Lewis!… my #1 Mentor (next to Jesus Christ, of course). Wishing my faithful fellow Lewis fans a
