Since the summer of 1988, the C.S. Lewis Foundation has conducted a major two-week international Summer Institute every third year within the colleges of Oxford and Cambridge Universities. The C.S. Lewis Summer Institute offers a rare opportunity for study, worship, fellowship, and cultural renewal within the historic setting of two of the world's finest universities, both of which figured prominently in the life of C.S. Lewis and in the early emergence of a truly vigorous Christian intellectual tradition. To date, over 2,000 participants, drawn from many nations and Christian communions, have reaped the fruit of this singularly unique experience. The Institute attracts a wide range of participants beyond that of college and university faculty, including representatives of numerous professions, clergy, business and political leaders, students, artists, and lay readers of Lewis, among others. The next Institute, Oxbridge 2002, will mark the fifth such gathering. Its theme, "Time and Eternity: The Cosmic Odyssey," will be explored from the perspectives of science and theology, as well as from those of the humanities, fine arts, social sciences, and the professions. Pre-registration information may be obtained by contacting the Summer Institute Registrar at the Foundation office or send an e-mail to registrar@cslewis.org. |
"I want to thank you for your generosity in granting me a scholarship to attend Oxbridge '98. As I told you during our conversation in Cambridge, I felt very strongly that there was something more at Oxbridge '98 than the organizers or speakers could plan or produce: the Lord was present and clearly at work. No one can control or orchestrate such glory. How richly He blessed us there!" SHARON KIM, Graduate Student "I found Oxbridge '98 a stimulating, energizing, uplifting week, intellectually and spiritually. Congratulations on organizing and carrying out a very successful conference. It had to be a huge task for you, an exhausting task, but I hope the excitement and enthusiasm of the participants afforded you rich compensation." DR. PETER SCHAKEL, Professor of Religion "I want to again express my deepest appreciation for the tremendous experience of the conference…. I have described my experience to others as my best enrichment and learning experience since seminary except for a sabbatical nine years ago (and I have done things every year for 25 years in several parts of the world)." REV. VIVAN H. MARTINDALE, Pastor "We are still bubbling with enthusiasm - lasting results from the magnificent C.S. Lewis Centennial Celebration. It truly was a glorious experience for us and all who attended. Thank you for making it all happen...." MR. AND MRS. RICHARD NELSON, Members |
