OX-10 and CAM-10 ~ Changing the Subject from ‘Self’ to ‘Person’:  From a Psychological to a Sacramental Understanding of Who We Are”  with Gil Bailie

The word “person” entered into the vernacular of cultures under Christian influence only after Christian theologians, in speaking of the three Persons of the Trinity, gave the word persona a philosophical profundity never before associated with it. In doing so, the theologians of the 4th and 5th centuries laid the groundwork for a revolution in human self-understanding which has languished for lack of adequate anthropological assimilation. Since the tools for accomplishing that assimilation are now at hand, it may be the special privilege of 21st century Christianity to take up this important and exciting work.

Gil Bailie

Gil Bailie, a Catholic layman, has been teaching and lecturing for many years on the cultural, spiritual, and anthropological significance of Christianity. He is the president of the Cornerstone Forum, whose mission is to encourage a deeper appreciation for the historical uniqueness of Christianity and the challenges confronting the Christian vocation in our time.  His publications include Violence Unveiled: Humanity at the Crossroads, “René Girard’s Contribution to the Church of the 21st Century,” Communio, Spring 1999, “Interview: Gil Bailie,” Image: A Journal of Arts and Religion, Winter 2003-4, No. 41, and forthcoming, Raising the Ante: Recovering an Alpha and Omega Christology.
