OX-06 and CAM-06 ~ Creative Writing Workshop: "The Self & the Search for Meaning Through Story" with Joy Jordan Lake
One of humankind’s primary ways of exploring questions of self and any kind of search for meaning beyond the self has been through the telling of stories, from spinning heroic epics to relaying historical events to crafting complex fictional characters, who, like us, are capable of tremendous compassion as well as unspeakable cruelty. This workshop will encourage--but not mandate--all participants to bring their own original stories, both creative nonfiction and fiction, for reading and receiving feedback. Whether you’ve only scrawled in a journal but have long intended to write more seriously, or whether you’ve been widely published, you are welcome. We’ll celebrate one another’s current work, and also discuss helpful specifics for improvement. Learning from one another and also enjoying the guest appearance of other published authors, we’ll consider how to explore meaning through our own stories--and how to craft stories that matter.
